Below is a copy of the Adoption Contract that you will be required to sign before adopting a Greyhound.

I understand the adoption fee is non-refundable should I return said animal for any reason. In the event that I have misrepresented information in the KC REGAP Application for Adoption or breach any of the terms of this Contract, I agree that REGAP may reclaim the animal, that I shall promptly return it, and that I am responsible for one-half the cost and expense of returning it to REGAP. REGAP may also seek legal action if I fail or refuse to return the animal. If there is legal action, I agree that the terms of this contract shall be governed by the law of Missouri, that Missouri is the place of contracting and performance, that REGAP may either collect liquidated damages in the amount of $1,000 or may pursue other remedies, at its sole option, and that I shall be liable for the reasonable attorney's fees incurred by REGAP if its legal action to reclaim the animal is successful.

  1. I will provide humane care and will comply with all laws and ordinances in force in the area in which I reside applicable to said animal.
  2. I will report to Kansas City REGAP immediately if the animal is lost, stolen, or dead.
  3. I will advise Kansas City REGAP of any change of address within 48 hours of a move.
  4. I will allow no one to use said animal for any experimental purpose whatsoever.
  5. I will not use said animal for the purpose of hunting game animals.
  6. I will never allow said animal to be raced again.
  7. I will give my pet heartworm preventative medicine.
  8. I will always maintain an identification tag for my greyhound/sighthound showing my address, phone number and REGAP's phone number in the event the greyhound/sighthound is lost.
  9. I will, as per the REGAP Application/Agreement, always keep the greyhound/sighthound in a completely fenced area or on a leash - never tethered or chained - at all times with the understanding that anything other than these two options are a threat to the greyhound/sighthound's life. Electric fences are not acceptable as they do not work for containing the Greyhound.
  10. I agree that repeated escapes by an adopted Greyhound provides moral and legal justification for KC REGAP to reclaim said Greyhound and I will not contest that reclamation should those repeated escapes occur.
  11. I understand to always keep the greyhound/sighthound in the house - this does not mean a garage or shed but your home - except for brief exercise periods and relieving itself. Greyhound/sighthounds are indoor dogs and cannot tolerate extreme temperatures which can be a life threatening situation. I understand this and agree not to subject the greyhound/sighthound to those conditions.
  12. I will return said animal to Kansas City REGAP if, at any time, I desire to relinquish custody of it. By my dated_____ initials herein, I agree that I shall never take said animal to an animal pound, shelter, or to any other person or group without written permission from REGAP.   13. I will return said animal to Kansas City REGAP if, at any time, I am requested to do so by REGAP because of my violation of terms of this agreement or because of conduct harmful to the animal or for any reason in the best interest of the dog or because of any statement made by me on the REGAP Application/Agreement is found to be a misrepresentation, making no charge for its upkeep or for any other reason.
  14. I agree that I will not attempt to hold Kansas City REGAP or its volunteers, directors or officers responsible for any illness of the animal or for any damage which the animal may do to any person or property. I accept all future liability with regard to said animal.

We require a completed application, a signed committment sheet, and we do a home visit before sending a dog home.
