KCREGAP, and many greyhound rescue groups around the country, have periods where we have saved a number of older adult greyhounds. They come to us from many different sources, some for legitimate reasons; some because they have been breeding stock; and some come from shelters because people's lifestyle's have changed, they have not considered their pets, and as the dogs become inconvenient, they have been dumped. All of these precious babies desperately need homes. They have many years of unconditional love to give families. Although it is reasonable to be concerned that you may not have them as long as a younger grey, there are never any guarantees. We have had two year olds die of unforeseen illnesses. These guys desperately need a chance. Another unfortunate side effect is that they take so much longer to place than a younger dog, our program cannot bring in those dogs that are ultimately being destroyed because our foster homes and kennel are full of mature greyhounds waiting to be chosen. The older dogs typically go into a home with very little transitional problems and settle in like they have been there all their lives and are eternally grateful for a soft spot to curl up on and share your love and affection! As you're looking at the bios following this paragraph, please consider taking one of these special greyhounds into your hearts—we promise you that you will never regret it (and you may even become like many of us—preferring to live with the older kids)!

- Name: Kahlua
- Age: 4 Years, 6 Months Old
- Color: Fawn
- Sex: Male
- Ok With Cats?: No
- Ok With Small Dogs?: Yes
- Needs To Live With Another Dog: No
- Description:
My name is Kahlua REGAP. I’ve heard tell that I’m a little reserved 'til I get comfortable and that I’m quiet. Honestly? I really just don’t see any reason to rush right up to folks when I KNOW they are going to notice my handsome face soon enough and want to pet me (see pic and you will understand). I also can’t figure out why some dogs think they need to bark when they want to go outside-like my foster brother. I can get the same result by just walking to the door and giving the two legged family members "the look". No accidents on MY record, so it must be working! I am getting used to being called a "perfect gentleman" even if i don’t really know what that means. Foster mom says I’m just an all round good boy and she’s sure going to miss me when I find my forever home. I think I will miss her too but it sure will be nice to get a real last name instead of being called Kahlua Regap.

- Description:
Well! I now realize how wonderful life can be with Strange-Shaped thing(people?) that walk on their hind legs (complain and groan if they have to bend over & get their front legs anywhere near the floor- ODD) have shown that they know how to treat we greyhounds. Another greyhound in the house proved it to me as my other foster sib is not quite trustworthy--not being one of our breed (his opinion doesn’t count). With the "people" we go on walks (Awesome!) on trails with interesting smells. They bring us toys & if we toss them and make them squeak, we cause the "people" to make unusual sounds, “ooh” and “aah”. They also seem to like it when I lean on them, giving me all kinds of attention, ear-scratches and butt rubs. Even pill-time is good. I didnt like the yucky things in the green bag, so the lady "people" wrapped gooey cheese around them! Yummy!! I had to teach the other grey about holding out for the good cheeseballs, and he agrees. It's good to go Gourmet!
